In the Open was the first exhibition of its kind in the United Kingdom, bringing together a group of divergent emerging and established artists from the Kingdom of Bahrain. From sound and performance art to photography, painting, collage and drawing, the exhibition showcased some of the region’s finest talent and established an international platform for the presentation and proliferation of Bahraini art.
Highlights included: Jenine Sharabi’s ‘Public Displays of Affection’ series, which through whimsy and charming simplicity portrays the unseen affections felt by couples in the Middle East, Hasan Hujairi's interactive sound sculpture, Camille Zakharia's photo-collages which encapsulate place, identity, and what it means to belong, and a photographic mural depicting ongoing conversations spread over Bahrain's walls, by Ghada Khunji.
The exhibition was curated by Latifa Al Khalifa and presented in partnership with the Mayor of London’s Shubak Festival and Bahrain’s Ministry of Culture.
