“The next generations will lose themselves in the
struggle between globalisation and national identity.”
1983 born and lives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Heba Abed is a Saudi artist and designer based in Jeddah. She gained a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the King Abdulaziz University, and currently works as a Visual Arts Program Manager.
In her work Heba explores the westernisation of the Arabic language and culture, and the problems that coincide with that, such as incorrect translations or the substitutions of symbols for Arabic phenomena that do not exist in other Western languages. Another part of her practice also focuses on highlighting the neglected feminist arguments in the society she is a part of.
Heba has exhibited in Saudi Arabia and internationally, including at the Venice and Florence Biennales, at the RomART Biennale, and as part of RCA Secret at Art Dubai.
